Too Much of a Good Thing??? I Don’t Think So!

We are in the middle of Christmas activities and visitors now, so things are hectic but very very pleasant. I’ve said often, that I could quite happily live on smoked salmon. Well yesterday I made an attempt at that! In fact, my last 4 meals in a row have involved this delicious, delightful, delectable delicacy – and I’m certainly still up for more!

Firstly, after a 1am trip to the airport and not much sleep at all, my day started with smoked salmon on crumpets, for breakfast, sprinkled with lemon juice and white pepper and topped with a few capers.

I then took my boyfriend’s mother (just arrived from UK for Christmas) out for a light lunch at the Peninsula Tea Gardens, a very tranquil spot by the Swan River where devonshire teas, light refreshments and fresh cakes are served on elegant, fine bone china. This place is really close to where I live, and is ideal for a gourmet coffee & cake, or as in this case, lunch.

We both had cheese & herb scones served with smoked salmon & cream cheese, pots of tea and lots of sunshine! Very enjoyable.

Then last night was a family dinner, 7 of us watching the sun go down over the ocean at the Soda Sun LoungeNorth Beach. I’d been there for breakfast before, but never for an evening meal.

After a couple of overpriced, too-small entree plates to share, our main courses were delicious – below you can see the fish & chips, barramundi with chermoula-spiced tabouli, and my own choice – yes here was my 3rd smoked salmon meal for the day – smoked salmon, caper, red onion & cream cheese on a pizza. It was very, very yummy.

This morning I was up early and off to the airport again, this time to briefly pick up my son on his way home to Melbourne from London – stopover of 5 hours only, and I haven’t seen him since Easter, so I took him out for brunch and then dropped him back off at the airport again :(. We went to The Old Bakery Cafe, just around the corner from my house, and I had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, wilted spinach and rye toast. It was HUMUNGOUS!!!  No lunch for me today, that’s for sure. In fact I came home from dropping Drew off and went for a 6.5km fast walk to work it off!

Tomorrow I’m going away for a couple of days, down South to Albany and Pemberton, where there are sure to be some more lovely foodie experiences in store. But first, tonight I’m off to a Christmas drinks function in the city, where there are bound to be loads of nibbles passed around – quite possibly involving more smoked salmon. Am I perturbed by this???? Certainly not….

Happy Christmas Fooding!
